Volunteers 18+ welcome and ages 13-17 with guardian consent. Reach out to info@brooklynbookbodega.org with any questions. Learn more here and fill out our interest form to have your group join us!

Prior group volunteers include: Centerfield, Charterworks, Congregation Beit Simchat Torah, ECCO Shoes, Fanatics, Huron Consulting, Mercer, New York Community Investment Council at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, NYU Tandem School of Engineering, Partisan Records, Redesign Health, Ripple, Smart Design, Street Diligence, Thornton Tomasetti.

Brooklyn Book Bodega increases the number of 100+ book homes in Brooklyn. Research shows that households with 100+ books boost life outcomes for children and adolescents.

Why 100 Books?
In a research study of 42 countries, the quantity of books in homes was the second most important predictor of reading performance. In fact, having about 100 books in the home yielded a reading performance 1.5 years higher than those with fewer books.

Windows & Mirrors
We often say that books should act as both windows and mirrors. We want children to see themselves reflected in the books that they read and to have books that act as doors that they can walk through to safely begin to understand other perspectives and lives.
