Christmas Celebration for Asylum Seekers and Immigrants

FUNDAVENYC, INC.

Purpose/Objective:
Fundavenyc seeks to accelerate and support asylum seekers and immigrants’ transition into thriving New York City residents. For many, this will be their first Christmas outside their home country, and each volunteer plays an essential role in making this holiday season special and positive for them.

Hudson Yards


Time Commitment:

  • This is a one-time opportunity, date TBD, either Saturday, December 16th OR Sunday the 17th, 2023.
  • Volunteers must be available for AT LEAST one 3-hour shift, either from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm OR from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend a mandatory in-person orientation at the beginning of your shift.
  • Volunteers will be assigned to any of the following opportunities during the event:
    • Greet and welcome guests while they wait in line outdoors and as they enter.
    • Assist guest event area: attend tables and distribute toys.
    • Assist guest pick-up area: distribute food and toys.
    • Serve food.
    • Support the staff with any necessary tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Ready to share the holiday spirit.
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist in any necessary tasks.
  • Availability to volunteer indoors and outdoors interchangeably.
  • Ability to work in a group, with a strong disposition for teamwork.
  • Ability to receive feedback.
  • Willingness to work with Spanish speakers - note Spanish proficiency is NOT required as bilingual staff will be paired with volunteers. 


Training/Support Provided:
