Volunteers will help package and distribute free packages of groceries to low income families and individuals. Specific tasks include packing produce and pantry items (i.e. cans, boxes, jars), assembling and distributing each pantry package to members, sorting and organizing food, cleaning the pantry area after food distribution, and other activities as needed.
Volunteers for this project must be at least 16 plus and be able to stand for 3.5 hours and be able to consistently handle 30lb packages of groceries. Please wear closed toed shoes (such as sneakers) and comfortable clothing that can get dirty. Volunteers should plan on staying for the full length of their shift, and should alert the staff at the beginning of the shift if they need to leave early.
Our Choice Pantry Program offers fresh, culturally appropriate and nutritious food free to participants who qualify. Pantry packages are supplemental grocery packages in five food categories: protein, dairy, grains, fruits and vegetables, proportional to the number of individuals in the family and provided every two weeks. 1290 Hoe Avenue, Bronx Location
