Organization Profile

DEP

As the largest combined water and wastewater utility in the United States, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) holds the critical mission of enriching the environment and protecting public health for all New Yorkers by providing high quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. Relatedly, our vision is to be a world class water and wastewater utility, while building a sustainable future for all New Yorkers. DEP relies on its talented and dedicated workforce of nearly 6,000 employees to keep this vast system running. As such, we have recognized that the ability to succeed in fulfilling our mission and serving our customers is dependent upon attracting, growing, and retaining a diverse, high performing workforce that reflects all segments of our society and values all aspects of our human needs. DEP's  Bureau of Organizational Development & Human Resources (OD&HR) is at the focal point of these exciting efforts, concentrated on ensuring our operation is staffed with the best-qualified, developed, and engaged employees.
